We visited this museum in October 2012.
The New Zealand Caterpillar Experience was created by Lindsay Willis to share his passion for old Caterpillar equipment that he has collected and restored. Many of them are staged in situations they would have seen in real life, so you can see them as used. It’s nice to be able to get up close to the equipment and see them from all angles. I liked crawlers before visiting this museum, but now I really like them. I see a crawler tractor in my future at some point!
He’s got a majority of the models by Caterpillar from the beginning, like the Caterpillar TEN 10, Twenty 20, 2 Ton, FIFTEEN 15, D2, D4, D6, D7, D8, and some others.
Enjoy the pictures, but seeing it in real life is even better, so visit them in Rotorua, New Zealand. Their website is: http://www.caterpillarexperience.co.nz/
I just learned that it is currently closed, but may re-open in the future, see more at this news article: http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/BU1302/S00314/historic-caterpillar-tractors-to-remain-in-new-zealand.htm
In the meantime, enjoy the pictures below!
