Knuckleboom Crane: Making room on the frame: moving the flatbed

Part 7: Making Room on the Frame: moving the flatbed

I started by cutting loose the existing flatbed to slide it back to make room for the knuckle-boom which involved cutting loose the rear most hinge points, and also cutting loose the hydraulic lift attaching points.  Since the bed needed to be raised for this, I first made a hefty wood brace, then lowered the bed onto that before doing any cutting.

Now it was time to carefully slide the bed rearward enough to make room for the crane.  Once again, the forklift came it handy, I attached the winch that’s on the bed to the forklift, and by carefully raising/lowering and tightening the winch, I slid the bed back on the mounts.
